This robust sword shows an early example of the "S" member appearing within the barwork. This has been considered to have a Jacobite connection: the S may stand for Stuart or Sterling. The sturdy hilt is hot forged from steel with the barwork fashioned into a Saltire on the front of the basket. The liner helps to prevent chaffing and also gives protection to the users hand. The diamond section, double fullered blade has a full tang and is made from silicon manganese spring steel that is hardened and tempered to 52-54 Rockwell C.
